The Board has been hard at work over the last several weeks preparing its first grant application! Today we submitted our entry into the pool for the Family Medicine Cares grant from the American Academy of Family Physicians Foundation.

The Dearborn Clinic will be funded by grants and donations rather than taxes. Our goal is to help the community, not add to the burden of its citizens. If we are awarded this grant, we will receive up to $25,000 for equipment like A1C monitors, fetal heart monitors, EKG equipment, defibrillators, and so many more items that we will need to serve the community to the best of our ability.  Family Medicine Cares has helped fund 164,000 patient visits since its launch and we hope to help add to their reach here in Dearborn County.

The organization will meet in November to make their final decisions and announcements. This is a great opportunity and will be a key item to our hopeful opening in January of 2018. Read below to learn more about Family Medicine Cares USA.

From their website:

Launched in 2011, this humanitarian program helps new and existing free clinics to care for the uninsured in areas of need across the United States by providing new grants for the purchase of tangible items, such as exam tables, EHR systems, and medical equipment. Family Medicine Cares USA also gives AAFP members, residents, and students the opportunity to volunteer their time and talents.

As of December 31, 2016, Family Medicine Cares USA  has awarded a total of $340,829 to 13 new clinics and 17 exisiting clinics. These clinics have reported over 164,000 patient visits, totaling more than $32,000,000 in health care services, since the program’s inception.
